Ashram Emporium is proud to present a selection of ‘Patachitra’
paintings. These charming works are indigenous to Orissa and belong
to a tradition that can be traced to the beginnings of Orissan art.
Patachitra style can still be seen everywhere throughout the region.
Artists use Tussar silk, which is starched using tamarind and tree
gums. The paints used are made from mixtures of ground clay and
minerals to produce surprisingly vibrant colours. Themes often centre
around Radha and Krishna and the famous Lord Jagannatha of Puri.
Asides from offering the best of traditional Indian art, the
Emporium will soon be featuring works from talented artists closer
to home. Watch this space!
